ＳＴＡＰ細胞の論文問題で、主要著者の一人、理化学研究所発生・再生科学総合研究センターの笹井芳樹副センター長が１６日午後、東京都内で記者会見を開いた。ＳＴＡＰ細胞について、「ＳＴＡＰ現象を前提しないと説明できない」として、存在を否定はしなかった。

笹井氏は、小保方晴子ユニットリーダーの指導役を務めた。会見で「論文に関して大変大きな混乱と、齟齬（そご）による多くのご心配、疑惑を招く事態となりましたこと、心からおわび申しあげます」と頭を下げた。
論文の疑義については、自らが関わる前に小保方氏らが行った実験だったので、自分は見抜くことができなかったと説明。また、小保方氏が独立した研究室を持っているため、実験の生データやノートについて見る機会はなかったとした。
笹井氏は「（小保方氏は）研究室の直属の部下ではない。大学院生にするような不躾な依頼は現実的に難しかった」とも語った。

野依といいこの副所長といい、科学者としては優秀らしいが、部下の人間管理などは無能でまるで出来ないのだから、こんな者らを管理者に抜擢してはならないのだ。何か問題が起きるまでは[いいわいいわ♪]で知らん顔して通して来て、一度何か揉め事が起きると今度はああだこうだと言い訳しかしない。みっともないと思わないのか！
日本の人縁・地縁社会ではこういう歪（いびつ）な現象がしばしば起きるから困る。

I do indifference in [OK,OK,It's no problem♪] until some problem happens and put it and do only an excuse naggingly this time when anything trouble gets up once. Do you not think that it is shameful?
Because the phenomenon that is such distorted (distorted) often gets up in the person relationship, community of a shared territorial bond of Japan, I am troubled.
